Analyse the space you have to work with carefully and work out what you like and dislike about it. If you are having trouble visualising this, think back to when you first saw the property. What struck you about it then?

Assign a purpose for the space you are working with to help you create an interior that is both pleasing and practical.

Take some time to work out a budget. Be realistic and consider the project as a whole.

Draw accurate and detailed floor plans. They are essential to work out what size furniture and fixtures you can use, as well as being a good canvas to try different arrangements on.

Inspiration can come from anywhere: nature, fashion or far away places. When starting a project, keep your eyes and mind open.

Collect images and take pictures of things that inspire you and of interiors you like. This will help you focus your thoughts and help in the creation of a final concept.

Having a coherent concept for your design and colour scheme is really important. Adhere to it as strictly as possible to make sure your room will look balanced and consistent as a finished product.

Make use of a colour wheel. Choose if possible one that also shows the different tints and shades of each hue.
Remember that the different rooms of your home do not exist independently from each other. Think about how they relate to each other visually through doors and other openings when creating your colour schemes.

Try to check your colour scheme with samples, as the light in your home may be different to that of the shop. This way you can avoid some unpleasant surprises.
